Inspector W. Wilson, who prosecuted, said that Clifton sold the vehicle to the company in July, 1947, but the change in ownership was not notified to me deputy-registrar of motor vehicles. Clifton, who was very helpful when interviewed, said that he had made out the change of ownership and had passed al< the papers on to the company. “It is two months since the vehicle was stopped and the owner is still shown as Clifton," the inspector added. Mr. Haggitt submitted that it was quite clear that the company was at fault for not completing the formalities and it was news that the deputyregistrar of motor vehicles had not yet been notified about the change of ownership. He would endeavour to have this rectified immediately. Referring to the charges against the Wanganui-Midland Transport Co., Ltd., Inspector Wilson said that he stopped lhe truck on Anzac Parade on March 9, last. It was heavily laden, but no heavy traffic licence had been taken out, though a licence had oeen obtained for last September only. The fees for the present quarter, however, has since been paid. The truck had no certificate of fitness and was not carrying a vehicle authority as required by lhe regulations.
