Lebanon Rejects American Demand
Recd 7.5 p.m. Washington, May 23. Lebanon has rejected the American demand for the release of 41 American citizens taken off the American ship Marine Carp at Beirut. The Lebanon Government stated that the Americans, all Jews of military age, were taken from a Pales-tine-bound ship and interned “in view of the safety of the Lebanese Army of Occupation in Palestine and for order and security.”
