YOUTH KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY RIMU LOG
(P.A.) Greymouth, Mav 24. While assisting to unload logs from a cable at Stopforth’s saw mill at Lake Arthur this afternoon an 18-year-old mill hand. Merle Smith, was crushed by a 60-foot rimu log weighing about eight tons and lost consciousness immediateij. He was transported to the Westland Hospital at Hokitika, but died en route.
