PUBLIC NOTICES LAND FOR SELECTION BY EX-SERVICEMEN. PUNIHO FARM SETTLEMENT, NEAR OKATO. MOKOIA FARM SETTLEMENT, NEAR HAWERA. APPLICATIONS for three undefined sections.in the Schedule hereto are invited from ex-servicemen of World War II who have been classified as eligible for immediate Rehabilitation farming assistance, and who have been graded ''A” for dairying in the Taranaki district. Completed applications together with Grading Certificate (Rehab. Form 35) must be lodged with the Commissioner of Crown Lands, New Plymouth, not later than 4 p.m. on the 18th day of June, 1948. Before being admitted to the ballot applicants must satisfy their local Farming Sub-Committee that they have the necessary qualifications to milk a herd of 75 to 100 cows, and can arrange for necessary labour, and they must contact their Rehabilitation Officer not later than 11th June, 1948. All applicants must appear before the New Plymouth Farming Sub-Com-mittee at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on 24th June and that Committee will decide which applicants shall be deemed eligible to participate in the ballot. The ballot will be held immediately on conclusion of examination of applicants. The successful applicants will be required to enter into sharemilking Agreement on a 39% basis for the 1948/49 season pending completion of the development programme, subject to the following conditions:— (1) The successful applicants will be required to commence operations on Ist July, 1948. (2) The successful applicants will be required to finance themselves until the amounts due to them in accordance with the Sharemilking Agreement are available. (3) The allotment of available accommodation will be determined by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and will be subject to the Crown obtaining vacant possession of the buildings on the property. (4) When the development programme has been completed to the satisfaction of the Land Settlement Board, the sections will be defined, valuations made on a productive value basis and charges fixed by the Land Settlement Board. A ballot will be held to determine the sections to be offered to the applicants successful at the initial ballot, the charges will be made known, and the successful applicants , given a stipulated time in which to accept allotment on these charges. (5) If on final allotment of sections, a successful applicant selects an Agreement for Sale and Purchase, a deposit of £5OO may be payable. (6) On final allotment the successful applicants will be required to purchase at Crown Valuation, the stock and plant allocated to the Section. (7) The ordinary loan limits fixed for applications by ex-servicemen for financial assistance are not applicable to these sections, but concession rates of rent and interest will be available only up to the extent of these, limits, with ordinary rates for advances in excess of the limits. (8) If a community water-supply is installed, the successful applicants will be required, to meet such levies as are fixed by the Land Settlement Board. Where there is no community supply but easements are required as between adjoining occupiers, both must meet legal costs.

SCHEDULE. MOKOIA FARM SETTLEMENT: Patea District. PROPERTY: Approx. 240 acres, formerly owned by C. J. Hawken, and situated on Mokoia Road, i mile from Mokoia Railway Station, and 6 miles from Hawera. Dairy Factory adjoins property. ACCOMMODATION: 2 dwellings of 4 and 5 rooms, subject to Crown obtaining vacant possession, 2-roomed bach, 4-bail cowshed, and man’s room. Second shed to be erected. HERDS: 2 herds of not less than 75 cows each will be provided by Department. EX-SERVICEMEN REQUIRED: 2. SUBDIVISION: When the development comprising mainly buildings, water-supply and fencing is completed the area will be subdivided into three dairy units estimated to carry 50 dairy cows each. DESCRIPTION: The land comprises good medium loam over clay. Approximately 170 acres level, balance siblings running to flat and easy country with a south-west aspect. Approximately 200 acres easily ploughabie, with about 200 acres hillside ploughing. Watered by springs, dams and Tongahoe River on western boundary with pumps and rams to troughs.; sheltered by boxthorn hedges which are not adequate. Pastures comprise good English grasses which can be maintained by topdressing. A little ragwort, gorse and Californian thistle well controlled. Fences comprise I’ve hedges and post and wire in good to fair condition. PUNIHO FARM SETTLEMENT: Cape Survey District. PROPERTY: Approx. 241 acres, formerly owned by Mrs E. D. McEldowney, and situated on Puniho Road, 2 miles from Puniho, and 22 miles front New Plymouth. Dairy Factory adjoins property. ACCOMMODATION: Old dwelling, 5 rooms in poor order, cottage 4 rooms, cowshed 5-bail. HERDS: 1 herd of approximately 100 cows will be provided by Department. EX-SERVICEMEN REQUIRED: 1. SUBDIVISION: When the development comprising mainly buildings, fencing and water-supply is completed tile area will be subdivided into two dairy units estimated to carry 50 dairy cows each. DESCRIPTION: The land is fair quality loam on clay. Originally in fairly heavy native bush. The property is level, intersected by a number of creeks, approximately 200 acres have been ploughed and the whole area is ploughable with the exception of creek bottoms—approximately five acres, and four acres in raupo swamp.
