SUSPENSION OF TRANSTASMAN SEA SERVICE

WAHINE COMING OFF TO THE INTER-ISLAND FERRY. (PA.) Wellington, May 7. When the Wahine sailed from Wellington for Sydney today she was making her last trip from New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman rgn for several months. She will return from Sydney on May 18, and for several months will be engaged in the Wellington-Lyttel-ton passenger run, while the Hinemoa and Rangatira undergo survey. When this is completed the Wahine will herself undergo survey, and it- is not expected that she will be able to resume the trans-Tasman service until September at the earliest. While the Wahine is engaged in the Wellington-Lyttelton run there will be a break In the regular passenger service across the Tasman, no ship has been found to replace the Wahine, and the only sea transport will be occasional ships making voyages between Australia and New Zealand for cargo.
