Waverley’s Effort To Raise Funds To Aid Starving Children

An amount In the Vicinity of £250 was collected in Waverley yesterday as the result of an appeal for the fund being raised to ease the plight of starving children overseas.

Children of the ■ Waverley School were the prime movers in yesterday’s effort. They not only paraded in the town, but themselves raised £35 towards the total. £l4 of which they collected and the remainder being raised from a crop of potatoes which they marketed.

The chairman of the Waverley Town Board (Mr. D. B. Hughes) addressed the assembled people yesterday and made an appeal to give at least one day's wages or earnings to aid children who did not know where the next meal is to come from and are in a sorry plight in regard to warmth and shelter as the result of the ravages of war.
