ADVANCE ON MARCH PRICES AT FINAL NAPIER WOOL SALE

(P.A.) • Napier- May 3. Prices comparing favourably with the January rates were obtained when the first portion of the last catalogue of the season was presented to a full bench of buyers at the final Napier wool sale of the season today. It was difficult to account for the sharp advance in certain classes —recognised to be several pence dearer than March quotations—and is largely explained by the domination of the market by Continental interests. One regular buyer gave the impression that price was no deterrent in acquiring his selections. French buyers were particularly active. The official report states: “There was keen competition for. all fleece wool, with the exception of woolly hoggets. Good to super lambs attracted much competition, but average types, contain:ng seed or burr, were somewhat erratic. Bellies sold at a premium. Compared with the Napier March sale fleece wool showed a distinct rise, ihis rise varying according to type. The report adds: “The offering consisted mainly of ewe wools with a fair portion of lambs. T’ ere was a full bench of buyers and all sections of the trade were represented. Bradford was operating, but the Continent dominated the market.” Official range of prices:— Ex Fine Xbred. 50/56’s
