This is an amazing country for leisure,” said one of the visiting Canadian bowlers yesterday afternoon.
“The forty-hour week is almost universal, and yet there seems to be plenty of money for everybody despite the little work that is done in a week- In British Columbia we have a 44-hour week, and I don’t know how we would manage with less.’’ There was, he stated, a strong Labour movement, the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, which was socialistic in aim, opposing the Liberal Party in power, and was moving in to civic affairs as well. City elections, for instance, were largely affected by Labour political agitation.
