PIPE BAND (OC.) Hunterville, Jan. 28, At a meeting held in the Scots Hall the Rangitikei Scots Pipe Band unanimously elected Mr. J. Leslie Lambert to the position of president. The vacancy occurred through the death of Mr. S. B. Abel. Mr. R. Holford was appointed treasurer in place of the Rev. W. Lowe, who is leaving Hunterville. The committee decided to order new drums, a bass, two tenor, and four side drums. An offer by Mr. Dalziell (instructor) to donate drums was thankfully accepted, also his offer to teach new drummers free of charge. During the course of the meeting the members stood in silence as a mark of respect to their late president. FINE WEATHER TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. Over the week-end, in perfect weather, the tennis courts, croquet and bowling greens were well patronised. Princesses to the Queen will be Miss Doreen Pearson and Miss Dulcie Morris. A total of 95 votes were cast. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman (Mr. F. Lovett), the De-puty-Superintendent of the Fire Brigade (Mr. A. S. Blackledge) presided and explained the object of the carnival. The following were added Ito the general committee: Mr. and Mi-s. H. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, Messrs. S. Thompson, C. Hunt, Mrs. B. Velvin, and Miss P. Howlett. The object of the carnival is the raising of £3OOO for a new fire engine.
