Recd. 8.20 p.m. New York, Jan. 27 The State Department will take over the military Government in Germany on or about July 1, announced the Secretary of the Army (Mr. Kenneth Royall) tonight. The decision followed conferences with the Secretary of State (Mr. Marshall) and the United States commander in Germany _(General Lucius Clay). Mr. Royall added: "The State Department desires to use the existing military Government organisation and to retain the staff intact. This personnel is now in large part civilian, and will be almost entirely civilian by July 1. Military duties of occupation will, of course, be performed by the army.
