Potato Ration In Britain Is Likely To Be Cut
Recd. 6 p.m. London, Jan. 27. It is generally predicted that the Government will shortly be compelled to reduce the potato ration from 31bs. to 21bs per person a week. The Ministry of Food at present is engaged in taking stock of reserves all over the country, and marchants in touch with the situation claim the result of this "potato census” will make a further cut inevitable. Already the Ministry is finding it impossible to honour the 31b. ration in many parts of the country, and it has. already drawn upon reserve stocks which normally would not be used for another two months. The Minister of Food (Mr. Strachey) is expected to make a statement upon the situation shortly.
