SCHOOLS LIKELY TO REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL AFTER EASTER

(P -A.) Wellington, Jan. 27 In announcing that schools will be closed until after Easter, the Minister of Education (Mr. McCombs) and the Minister of Health (Miss Howard) in a joint statement, said consideration will be given to an earlier opening if circumstances in connection with the infantile paralysis position warranted it. The present restrictions would be continued. The following educational institutions catering for students in the higher age groups would be free to open as soon as their controlling authority could make the necessary arrangements: The teachers’ training colleges, Elam School of Art (Auckland), Canterbury College, the School of Art, technical college evening classes, the technical college course for teacher trainees in homecraft, woodwork, metalcraft and commercial subjects. The university colleges will open at the normal time.
