AUSTRALIAN TENNIS TEAM TO PLAY WANGANUI

The personnel of the Australian tennis team which will visit Wanganui on Monday, March 1. was announced by Mr. T. N. Hay-Campbell yesterday. The men's section will be W. Sidwell and F. Sedgman, and the women’s section Misses M. Toomey and D. Whittaker. Sidwell recently scored his first major tournament victory of the season by defeating A. K. Quist, the New South Wales champion, in five sets in the final. Sidwell toured Europe and America independently of the Davis Cup team last year and qualified for consideration as one of the two of three best doubles players in the world by reaching the finals' of the Wimbledon, French and American championships with different partners, a wonderful performance. Sedgman is looked upon as one of the most accomplished of the younger players. Miss Toomey was a finalist in the Australian singles championship, being beaten by Mrs Nancye Bolton, who is ranked about No. 3 in the world ranking. Miss Whittaker is an attractive player and has several successes to her credit.
