OTAGO SNATCH WIN FROM CANTERBURY IN SHIELD MATCH

(P.A.) Dunedin, Jan. 27. Otago snatched victory from Canterbury in a thrilling finish to the Plunket Shield match, winning by the narrow margin of 12 runs. Otago thus wins the trophy for the third time since the series started. Canterbury appeared to have the match in hand when only 50 runs were needed for victory and five wickets in hand, but the slow legspinner, Robinson, and the Otago captain, Lankford Smith, accounted for the tail-enders for small scores and the match was over. Canterbury made an excellent start, Hadlee and Leggat putting on 179 for the first wicket, but the advanage was not pressed home. Hadlee was in great form and gave a dashing display in scoring his hundred. Leggat was unlucky to miss his century, although his display lacked the certainty and dash of Hadlee's. After 90 runs had been scored off him for no wickets, Robinson finished with the figures of four for 112.
