Indian Christians In Pakistan In Desperate Plight

Recd. 7.25 p.m. London, Jan. 26. Mr. Jinnah's assurances that Christian minorities in Pakistan would be given special teatment have yet to be carried out in this province, says the Lahore correspondent of "The Times.” The condition of the majority of West Punjab’s 416,000 Indian Christians, 92 per cent, of whom are agricultural workers, is desperate, and many of them are starving. The Christian community in the rural areas is being persecuted by those who believe that Pakistan should be completely Islamic. Village policemen often refuse to recognise the Christians’ right to protection, and in areas where there are now no Untouchables the Christians are often regarded as legitimate victims for forced labour.
