U.K. WOOLGROWERS WANT HIGHER PRICES
(Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.) Recd. 7.5 p.m. London, Jan. 26 A deputation headed by the Duke of Montrose and representative of all United Kingdom wool-growers, interviewed the Earl of Huntingdon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, and strongly .rged either increased payment for homegrown wool or else the removal of Government purchasing controls giving the farmers the right to sell their product in a free market. It was pointed out by the deputation that costs of sheep farmers were steadily rising and that owing to the keen demand for home-grown wool the Ministry was making a handsome profit out of its bulk purchasing scheme. The Duke of Montrose urged that prices should be increased by 4s to 5s per lb. and argued that the Goveernment could grant this increase without increasing prices to consumers.
