Woman's World

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL A conference of the New Zealand Pan-Pacific Association, of which Miss Andrews, of New Plymouth, is president, is to be held in Wellington on Wednesday. Mrs. J. A. Harris, of Turakina, will be a delegate attending the meeting. David Niven, the 37-year-old British film star, was married in London last week to a beautiful Swedishborn woman, Mrs. Hjordis Tersmeden, who was divorced last year from a wealthy Swede. She is not connected with the stage or screen. Niven’s first wife, Primulo Rollo, was accidently killed in Hollywood last year. She was a niece of the Marquess of Downshire. He has two sons, aged four and two years. “De-Sanding” You can save yourself a lot of unnecessary cleaning up at your beach house if you instal a “de-sanding” centre, which the children—and the adults—can use before entering from the beach. Beside the back door put a tub of water for washing feet, and an old towel. Beach shoes and bathing suits can be shed there, to be later hung on the line after rinsing in fresh water. Protect the floor of your car by putting down a removable mat, and if people make a custom of coming home from the beach in wet bathers, drape a waterproof sheet over the seat. You can help to keep the house tidy, too, by insisting that all beach equipment be kept in a special place and returned there after use. ENGAGEMENT Kinnaird—Owen.— Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Owen, of Wanganui East, wish to announce the engagement of their only daughter, Beverley June, to William Alexander, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. D. Kinnaird, of Dunedin.
