N.Z. Local Bodies Are Well Managed

TRIBUTE FROM MR. W. A. SHEAT, M.P. The importance of local body administration in New Zealand was emphasised by Mr. W. A. Sheat, M.P. for Patea, at a social at Maxwell on Saturday, tendered to Mr. and Mrs. .W. Morrison. Mr. Morrison has retired as a member of the Waitotara County Council, a position he has held for 42 years, and from the chairmanship of that body, an office he has occupied for some 29 years. Mr. Sheat said that an important chapter in the history of local body

work was closing with the retirement of Mr. Morrison, and the importance of local body work to the Dominion was perhaps not as fully realised as it should be. There were people sitting in Parliament who were closely associated with local bodies and depended on the administration of those bodies to carry out their own duties. If local bodies were not administered wisely and local body Government did not function well, it would not be possible to carry out properly the Government of the country. New Zealand had every reason to feel proud of the way in which its local bodies were directed and administered. On behalf of the Parliament of New Zealand Mr. Sheat paid tribute to the work Mr. Morrison had done, over a long period of years, not only for his riding, but for the whole of New Zealand. (Applause.). Savage Film Fight For what is planned as one of the most savage lights since the historic bout of Vvilliam Farnum and 'lorn Santschi in the first "The Spoilers,” Hal Wallis recently signed mountainous Mike Mazurki to battle big Burt Lancaster in “1 Walk Alone.” After testing five other husky prospects in his search to find someone photogenically tough enough to look convincing in licking the rugged star, the producer decided to wait until Mazurki was free. He has re-arranged the shooting schedule to film the light scenes after Mike finishes his commitment in Columbia s " Three Were_Thoroughbreds.” forced and Junction fared even worse, no player reaching double figures in a poor total of 24.
