Argentine Suspends Meat Shipments To Britain
Recd. 6 p.m. Buenos Aires, Jan. 25 President Peron has authorised the suspension of meat shipments to Britain. Officials said the action was due to failure of meat exporters to secure “hard” currency in exchange for their payment drafts. Argentine banking laws provide that exports must be paid with convertible currencies within a fixed period after export permits are issued. The United. Press says trade circles interpret the suspension action as another play in a lengthy “poker game” negotiations being carried on with the British Tiade Mission.
