Exonerated Of Showing Gold Badge To Japs

Recd. 7.30 p.m. Sydney, Jan. 21 Mr. Mac Alister Blain, Member of the House of Representatives for Northern Territory, has been cleared of a charge of having shown his Parliamentary gold pass to a Japanese while a prisoner of war to obtain preferential treatment. A Parliamentary Committee of Privileges which met privately in Sydney last week cleared him of the charge, which was made in the House of Representatives on November 6, 1947. The committee found that ho breach of privilege had been committed. The result is not completely satisfactory to the Opposition members, who have asked the committee to meet again with the object of discussing whether Mr. Mulcahy, a Labour member who made the charge, should be censured.
