Steamship Coy.s Boycott British Yards
Recd. 7.30 p.m. London, Jan. 21 Five leading steamship companies are to boycott British shipyards because they claim that building costs are too high, says the “Sunday Dispatch.” They are: The P. and 0., Shaw, Savill, Ellernian Lines, Canadian Pacific Stceamship, and the Houlder Line. In addition the Orient Line anti Furness Withy express “serious alarm” at rising building costs. A leading builder said everything that went to build a ship was dearer. Also the owners called for high speeds, better fittings, better quarters for the crew.
