SHOPPING UNDER DIFFICULTIES

Sir,—Shopping in Wanganui at Christmastide, I ordered two weeks before some pure lillies for the English vicarage and also for the church. I called for them and was told there were none. I ordered two fowls a good fortnight ahead. I called for them and was told -they were not ready. As there were nice fowls in the window, I said I would take those, as I was busy and could not wait! I was told I could not buy those as I had ordered others; that puzzled me. However, on the way home I saw the lillies I wanted for the church. I was told I could not have them; they had been ordered by someone else. I gave all my meat coupons. No. 8, to help the British, so without any fowls I was very puzzled what to do. A friend came to my rescue and gave me some coupons, so I had dinner on Christmas after all!—I am, etc., "FEARLESS.” Wanganui, December 28, 1947.
