RECORD DIVIDEND AT WESTPORT TROTS
(P A.) Westport, Dec. 28. The Westport Trotting Club's meeting was concluded yesterday in line weather until just before the last race, when heavy showers fell. The attendance was good and the course had dried up well after heavy rain on the previous day. Sowden Beck, winner of the Denniston Handicap, trained and owned at Westpc’t, returned his win supporters a dividend of over twg and athird centuries, a West Coast record. The previous highest dividend was returned by Cantata on the same course some years ago, when it was over a century and two-tfiirds. The totalisator handled £24,487, 10s, compared with £22,569 for the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £41,128 10s being £6353 10s above last year’s figures. Results:— Charleston Handicap: 6-6 Sealand 1, 4-3 Accord 2, 2-2 Steel Sword 3. Seddonville Handicap.—First division: 1-1 Great Wonder 1, 2-3 Loriot 2, 4-5 Bulls Eye 3. Second division: 3-3 Monogram 1, 2-4 Ipso Facto 2, 7-9 Lady Beverley 3. Buller Handicap: 3-3 Gold Strike 1, 1- Seacraft 2, 5-3 Sahara Queen 3. Stockton Handicap.—First division: 2- Arrow Hall 1, 5-5 Fulgent 2, 15-14 Shy Sonoma 3. Second division: 1-1 Grattan Gold 1, 3-3 Canny Scot 2, 5-5 Red Flight 3. Granity Handicap: 1-1 Wilbur Shaw 1, 3-5 Loyal Flier 2, 2-3 Sealand 3. Waimangaroa Handicap. First division: 1-1 Golden Sheat 1, 2-2 Red Herring 2, 16-16 Cougareous 3.
