PLOUGH HORSE WINS TUG-O-WAR

(N.Z.P. A.—Reuter—Copyright) New York, Dec. 25 A plough horse weighing 135 stone and a 16-stone Irishman had a tug-o-war yesterday at Waterloo, Oregon. Two thousand people saw the contest, and nearly 15000 was bet on the Irishman, Patrick Fitzwater. The horse, Baldy, stood at one end of a field with a 300 ft rope attached to his harness. Fitzwater lay flat on the ground at the other end of the field. The theory of those who bet on Fitzwater was that the angle of the rope would be so acute that the horse would not have enough tractive power to pull him upright. But in 30 seconds the horse pulled Fitzwater into the air.
