LOCAL BODY ELECIIONS

(0.C.) Taihape, Oct. 16. At the local body elections in November Taihape electors may have live issues before them—Mayoralty, Borough Council, Hospital Board, Power Board, and Catchment Board. The Mayor ‘Mr. E. Loader), who has -passed his 25 years of municipal service, has announced that he will seek re-election for a third term. Councillors F. White, J. McDonald (both of whom are leaving the town), and J. P. Jackson are definitely not standing for re-election a s councillors. So far as is known,.the other sitting councillors will again stand, as will Mr. W. T. May (Power Board) and Mr. V. C. Nicholls (Catchment Board). Since (ho retirement of Mr. T. C. Kincaid from the Hospital Board, Taihape has not. had direct representation on that board, although Mr. D. G. Gordon is a resident of the closely adjoining country area. It is understood that at least two local organisations are taking steps in connection with nominations for the borough elections. PERSONAL Mr. C. G. Cross, Clerk of the Court, Taihape, commenced a fortnight’s vacation on Thursday mornng. During Mr. Cross’s absence, the duties of his office will be carried out by Mr. D. R. Brown, of Palmerston North. LADIES’ GOLF CLUB The draw for the final bogey round of the Forgan Cup. to be played by members of the Taihape Ladies' Golf Club on Saturday, is as follows:—Mrs Morris and Miss P. Olliver, Mrs G. V. DEPARTING BOWLERS After the opening of the Taihape Bowling Club's season last Saturday two members who are leaving Taihape were presented with club r’lver by the president (Mr. W. Annear) as a memento of their association with the club. They were Mr. J. McDonald, retired county council supervisor, and Mr. C. Burney, who has been transferred in the railway service from assistant locomotive forejp’an to locomotive foreman at Wanganui. Mr. Burnev had been a member of the dub for two seasons, and Mr. McDonald for about 20 years. Mr. McDonald will leave Taihape In about three months' to take un residence at Motuopa Bay, Lake Tauno.
