WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Talhaix*. —At the September meeting of the 'Taihape Women’s Institute, it was decided that members contribute ingredients for a Christmas cake to be sent to England. They were asked to leave fruit etc. with Miss Addis. The meeting, another successful evening gathering, was held in the Presbyterian Hall. Mrs. P. Kearins presided and extended a welcome to all. Members stood in silence lor a few moments in respect to the memory of a deceased member, Mrs. Hall. Two members who are leaving the district, Mesdamca .1. McDonald senior, and J. Scott, were presented with shoulder sprays. Mrs. O’Callaghan (reporting) and Mrs. A. J. Evans (voting) were chosen as delegates to the haltyearly council meeting of the Ruapehu Federa-
tion. to be held at Ohakune on the third Friday in October. A very interesting demonstration on “flowers in the home.’’ was given by
Miss R. Addis, who was accorded a vole nf thanks. Two competitions were held. Mrs. Arch Lxtgan being the winner of the musical competition and Mrs. S. Bilbrough and Mrs. O’Callaghan tied for the flower competition. Miss B. Addis entertained with two violin solos and two numbers were sung by the musical circle ladles. Miss E. Addis was the accompanist. AU received hearty applause. Winners of the (points; competition were as follows: Apple pie on saucer (dripping pastry), Mrs. Arch Logan 1, Mrs.' J. Temple 2. Mrs. H. F. Smith 3; jar of spring bulbs (extra', Mrs. A. J. Evans. Members drawn in the group for October are Mesdfljpes.A. Logan, J. Kilgour. J. Allen, C. DwF. Johnston, Ar.near, Webby. Murphy.
