SOUTH ISLAND CLASSIC AT WINGATUI First major clash of three-year-olds in the South Island will take place at Wingatui today,‘when the Dunedin Guineas will be one of the feature events on the concluding day of tne Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting. This event will mark the initial appearance of last season’s unbeaten juvenile filly Excellency. As she will be ridden by W. J. Broughton, who has gone south especially for the occasion, Excellency is likely to be a short-priced favourite. It. may be left, to Coral Arc and Kartikeya to test the Salmagundi filly. In the Grandstand Handicap, the main event. Signal Officer will be giving away weight all round, but he may make most appeal, though Joygiver and Friskay should be capable of extending him.
