YESTERDAY’S RESULTS ( P.A.) Hamilton, Oct. 3. Despite cold and blustery conditions there were some good scores in the national women’s golf championshipt-’ at St. Andrew’s, Hamilton, today, when the first round of the amateur championship wa s decided. The surprise of the day was the defeat of th e seeded player, Miss C. Smith, by a Hamilton player, Mr s S. Bennett. Mrs G. W. Hollis had only a narrow win, while Miss J. Horwell also was not yet in form, though she was never in clanger of being beaten. Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) beat Mrs S. S. Wilson (Auckland) 2 and 1. Additional results in the first round: Miss J. Horwell (Manawatu) beat Mrs G. Chapman (Napier), 3 and 2; Miss N. Beverley (Matamata) beat Mr s J. S. Colegrove (Auckland) at the"2oth; Mrs W. Halligan (Hamilton) beat Mrs Symons (Whakatane) 1 up; Mrs J. K. Dolan (Otago) beat Miss G. Gibb (Paeroa) at the 20th; Mrs H. J. Topliss (Nelson) beat Mrs J. M.
