New Housing Scheme For Rangitikei County Employees Approved

(S.R.) Marton, Oct. 2. Approval for tlie construction of four dwellings at Kakariki, required by the Rangitikei County Council for men employed at its roadstone mill, has been granted by the Building Controller, according to advice received by the council at its monthly meeting today. The complete scheme envisages the erection of eight dwellings and the cost of constructing each unit is estimated at £l6OO, including water supply and sewerage. "We have tried to keep expenses down to a minimum and reckon on using concrete blocks made in our own works, but before this can be done, the actual plant for making the blocks will have to be investigated," stated the county engineer, Mr. H. Murray Reid.

“The houses are needed urgently and if the proposals are approved. I would recommend that tenders be called for four units as soon as possible.” The council adopted the report and a permit lias already been received for the construction of the first four dwellings.
