CAPTAIN BREAKS ANKLE AND IS OUT FOR THE TOUR London, Oct. 1 In a match against Combined Services at Twickenham today, the captain of the Australian Rugby Union team, Bill McLean, broke an ankle and will be unable to play again during the tour. The Wallabies defeated Combined Services 19-8 after leading; 11-5 at half-time. In the first half Allen scored and converted a try. Eastes scored and McMaster kicked a penalty. In the second half, McMaster kicked his second penalty goal. Davis scored and McMaster converted a try. McLean suffered his broken left ankle in strong loose play when he tackled Matthews. Another Combined Services player accidentally ran into McLean as he was falling. The Wallabies swung quickly into action and Allen scored after six minutes' play from a scrummage 20 yards out. The referee at. one stage stopped play and had a talk with the forwards of both sides. The Australians were penalised for lifting in the scrum and the Services’ full-back, Hall, kicked a penalty goal. Australia drew ahead when a good combined movement vxflth Allen, Tonkin and Howell handling resulted in Davis crossing. McMaster kicked the remaining points.
