Dutch to Make East Sumatra Area Semi-Autonomous

The Dutch authorities have officially announced that the Dutch-occupied territory on the east coast of Sumatra wotilyd become “Daerah fctimewa' (a semi-autonomous territory) in acoerd with petitions and demonstrations of the vast majority of the inhabitants of the area. The announcement followed a meeting between the Lieutenant-Governor (Dr. Van Mook) and "a committee of Sumatra’s east coast.” The committee would become a Provisional Council for Daerah and would co-operate with the Recomba (Governor) and Dutch Government. A further decision would be taaken regarding selfgovernment of the area as regular elections are held.
