Collegiate School Old Boy Gains Quick Rugby Promotion

Few Rugby players gain representative honours in Auckland B team in their first year after leaving secondary school, but W. Andrew, who played an outstanding game against. South Auckland recently, has won that distinction.

Andrew, who was at the Wanganui Collegiate School last year, early showed promise of developing into a first-class forward. He represented his school from 1944-46 and in the latter two years was picked as one of the best, forwards in the quadrangular school Rugby tournament played among Christ’s, Nelson and Wellington Colleges and Wanganui Collegiate School. Although only JO, he played senior football this season for Takapuna, playing consistently well, especially when the team played the Barbarians recently. Andrew, who is 6ft. lin., weighs 14.2 and is ideally built for the back of the scrum. A fast and hard-working forward, he sometimes tends to play more loose football than tight, but. this fault can be remedied and one or two more seasons should see him included in the Auckland pack.
