SPICER CUP COMPETITION SATURDAY'S RESULT'S With only one series of games to play in the first round of the Spicer Cup, the Wanganui hockey competition has entered an extremely interesting stage with Hinemoa and Technical College Old Boys sharing the lead, with Federal and Castlecliff together close behind. The positions of the teams after last Saturday’s games are: Hinemoa 7, Technical College Old Boy» 7, Federal 4, Castlecliff 4, Technical College 2, United 0, Wanganui Collegiate 0. The results of Saturday’s matches are as follow: Tech. 0.8. 7, Technical College 3. Castlecliff 2, Federal 1. Hinemoa 8, United 3. CASTLECLIFF’S NARROW WIN Showing greater finish in the circle than Federal, Castlecliff only managed to *win by two (one a penalty goal) to one, in a game which fluctuated at all times from end to end ol the field. Over the latter part of the second spell, however, Federal held the- territorial advantage and were unlucky not to even the score. 1. Gurney scored for Federal, while Castlecliff’s came from H. Rees and R. Anthony (penalty goal). Messrs D. F. Glenny and VV. L. McIntyre were the umpires. UNITED’S VAST IMPROVEMENT Settling down to the standard attained at the close of their previous week’s game, United proved to Hinemoa that they were not to be reckoned lightly with, and very SOon led by 3 goals to one. It was only in the latter part of the match that Hinemoa’s greater experience decided the issue. As the season progresses, United will be watched with interest by all. Scorers were.—United: Eddy, Lamo and Rush. Hinemoa: 13. Hughes, M. Springer, W. Spiaer (6). Messrs. C. C. Grant and H. Rees were the umpires. CLEAN, FAST HOCKEY Led by, L. Cate (left wing), Technical College put up a valiant effort only to find Technical College Old Boys too fast and experienced a team for them. Technical drew first blood and in a fast rush Old Boys soon netted the equaliser. From then on play was clean and open throughout. J. Keats and Buckley played outstanding games for Technical. Scorers were.—Technical College: J. Keats, L. Cate, R. Cate. Old Boys: W. Nicholls, N. Capp, M. Goldsbury (2), R. Crutchley (3). Messrs. S. Hughes and D, F. Glenny were the umpires. JUNIOR GRADE RESULTS Junior grade matches resulted as follows: Technical College C 3, Technical College B 1. Tawhero 4, Castlecliff 1.
