WANGANUI ASSOCIATION SATURDAY’S RESULTS. Basketball matches under the control ot the Wanganui Basketball Association were played under ideal weather conditions on Saturday. COMPETITIONS On Tuesday evening the Y.M.C.A.Y.W.C.A. gymnasium was resplendent as the teams in the first draw for the basketball competition made their way on to the floor. At 7.30 p.m. the director of these activities, Mr. Gwyn Crozier, blew the whistle and competitors and visitors gathered round while Mr. Herbert Prowse, general secretary of the association, extended the good wishes of the board of directors to all concerned and expressed the hope that the games would be played in the spirit for which the "Y” stood—the spirit of good fellowship and sportsmanship. He introduced Mr. T. Allen, of the Physical Welfare Department, Palmerston North, who had come over to see the games played. It is hoped that before many days are over the new court will be completed and ready for play. This will be the only full-sized court in Wanganui. and its advent, will be a great acquisition to the furtherance of baskethall in this city. This.court is occupying the space on which stood for several years the familiar servicemen’s hut. Now ex-servicemen are among the first privileged to use it. The second draw for the season Is as follows: For Tuesday, May 18 7.30 p.m.. Sphinx v. Woollen Mills; 7 45, Cubs v. Albion; 8.10, United B v. Everygirls B; 8 25, Masonic v.
