WOMENS INSTITUTES Taihape. — The monthly meeting of the Taihape Women’s Institute was held on April 24 in the Presbytenan Hall In the absence of the president, Mrs. P. Kearins, Mrs. A. M. Gordon presided, and extended a welcome to all present. Five new members were enrolled. Mrs W. G. Grey read the motto, "There is no time limit to we., doing," and the Dominion president’s letter from the “Horne < nd Country Journal,” was read by Mrs. McDonald. An invitation was received i cm Raetihi Women’s Institute to their birthday meeting to be held shortly. A new drama circle has been b rmed and Mrs. G. W. Haten is in charge of this. The Golden Thread was an interesting and informative talk 01 junior circ.es, given by Mrs. C. T. Arrow smith. Winners ot the competitions were as follows: Collection of three flowers in a vase, Mrs. Belk 1, Mrs. Johnston 2, Mrs. Webby 3. The prem.ei flower competition was vvsa l:y Mrs. Boulton. Two competitions, m whict all took part were held, rhe muswal competition being won by Mrs. J I '.tie, and the picture competition by Mrs. Bilhaugh. A dainty afternoon tea was served, and the singing of the National Anthem concluded a very enjoyable afternoon.

Fordell. — A toothsome cake made by Mrs. Downey and attractixely iced by Miss Barnes held pride of place at the Fordell W.l.’s 16th Birthday afternoon. The meeting was opened with the Institute Song. The president, Mrs. Lee, after extending a welcoriie to memoers and friends, asked all to stand as a mark of respect for the bereaved. Mrs. Kerr read the motto “Now with purpose full and clear, we turn to greet another year." Mrs. Mcßeth and Miss Flyger were nominated to attend the Federation meeting. It was decided to as» diss Hazel Johnston to hold tne dressmaking class again this year. Last year’s points prizes were given out, Mrs. Rowan gaining most points in the gardening section with Mrs. Christie 2 and Mrs. Speer 3. Household section, Mrs. Campbell 1, Mrs. Rowan 2, Mrs. Morgan 3. Mrs. Bryant gave the "Golden Tnread,” taking as her subject, Lady Montgomery. Mrs. Christie and Mrs. Lee each prepared a competition tor the afternoon’s entertainment. It was proposed that Mrs. Mahoney should again be in charge of the trading table, Mrs. Morgan the Howers, and Miss. Flyger the household competitions for the year. Mrs. Rowan presented the retiring committee members, namely Mrs. Lloyd, who is leaving the district. Mrs. Power, Mrs. Mcßeth, and Mrs Campbell. each with a beautiful box of flowers and a posy to each of the following, Miss Lloyd also leaving the district, Mrs. Lee (president)). Mrs. Bryant (secretary) and Mrs. Carroll senior. After afternoon tea Mrs. Lloyd lit the candles on the birthdaycake and Mrs. Shaw trom Turakina W.I. blew them out and Mrs. Carroll cut the cake. Competition results: Vase chrysanthemums, Mrs Speer 1, Mrs. Christie 2, Mrs. Hucker 3. Girdle scones, Mrs. .Rowan 1, Mrs. Camnbell 2, Miss Flyger 3. The meeting closed with the National Anthem. Hostesses for May are Mrs. Morgan, Miss Christie and Mrs. Campbell. Competitions will be three carrots and three chrysanthemums. Okoia.— The birthday meeting of the Okoia Women's Institute was held in the hall recently. The president, Mrs, O'Donnell welcomed all present, members of the Federation and visitors from Aramoho, Mosston, Westbourne, Westmere, Kaitoke and Turakina Institutes. Business was quiijlily dealt with and the afternoon was given to musical and dramatic entertainment. The musical programme was organised by Mrs. Tipper who sang two songs and gave two recitations. Mrs. 'Lizard of Aramoho, entertained with pianoforte solos and Mrs. Prouse gave an exhibition of ballet and Russian dancing which was verymuch enjoyed. A play staged by members of the Okoia Institute, was appreciated by all. The birthday cake donated by Mrs Field and beautifully iced by Mrs. G. R. Jones, was lit by past and visiting presidents and blown out by Mrs. Stilborn. Results of competitions were: Vase of flowers, Mrs. Hum 1, Mrs. G. R. Jones 2, Mrs. Field 3; collection of jam. Mrs. O’uennell 1. Mrs. Penn 2, Mrs. G. R. Jones 3; best bloom, Mrs. G. R. Jones. Mrs. O’Donnell thanked all those who helped to make the afternoon such a success.
