CANNED CANADIAN FISH FOR N Z.

SUPPLIES AVAILABLE IF IMPORTS ALLOWED (P.A.) Dunedin, May 5 A clear indication that supplies of new season’s canned fish from Canada will be available for the New Zealand market if import licences are granted by the Government, is given in a letter which has been received by a Dunedin importer from his principals in Vancouver. “With reference to your , new season’s requirements, we shall be pleased to have your advices from time to time as to conditions on your market, and market prospects, and trust that a good volume of business may be possible,” the letter stated. “If import licenses will again be required by your authorities, we shall be pleased to receive, in due course, particulars of the licences available to you, so that we may keep these before u s and arrange your requirements as soon as supplies of the new season’s pack are available.” The writers added that the first canned salmon should be ready for shipments about August or September, canned pilchards about the same time, and canned herring later in October, or November. “Our Governmental authorities are gradually releasing controls on this side,” the writers continued. “It will, therefore, be possible to arrange a shipment of supplies of canned pilchards and canned herrings, as well as canned Pacific sardines as soon as supplies are avaialble, without any restriction as to export permit.” Referring to canned salmon, the writers explained that export permits were still reauired, but they were hopeful that th’s regu’alion also might be lilted hy the time the new season s pack was availab’e.
