WANGANUI TEAM WINS GIRLS’ MARCHING
HAWERA CHAMPIONSHIPS (Special) New Plymouth, March 16 Wanganui teams were prominent in the Hawera girls’ marching championship decided at the Egmont A. and P. Society’s show grounds on Saturday night, filling first and third places in one of the most closely-contested marching competitions held this year. Only one and a-half points separated the first five teams. The championship was won by Troubadours, Wanganui, with 140 points. McKenzie's, New Plymouth, was second with 139 i points, and D.1.C., Wanganui, was third with 139 points. Fourth place was shared byGuards, Wanganui, and Post and Telegraph Department, New Plymouth, each with 1381 points. The best leader was Miss D. Chant, of the Guards team, Wanganui. Costume winners were Roebuck’s, New Plymouth. The W. S. Hopewell Shield, for the winning team, was presented to Troubadors by Mrs. W. A. Sheat. There was a very large attendance of the public. Seventeen teams from New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera and Wanganui competed.
