WANGANUI TEAMS SHARE SECOND PLACE
TARANAKI GIRLS’ MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
(Special) New Plymouth, March 9. A Wanganui team, Celtic, was placed second equal in the Taranaki Girls Marching Championship, which was decided at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, last night. The championship was won by Fitzroy Surf Club, New Plymouth, with 1411 points, and next came Spartans 111 (Masterton), and with 137 points each. They will share the Coaches' Challenge Shield, awarded to the runner-up. The Andrews Challenge Cup for the best leader was awarded to Miss L. Graham, of the Fitzroy Surf Club team. The Greiner Challenge Cup for costumes was won by Roebucks, New Plymouth. Twenty-seven teams competed, representative of certres from as far away as Masterton. Wanganui entrants were Troubadours, Celtic, D.1.C.,, Relax, United, McKenzie's and Victory, There was an attendance of between 3000 and 4000. The marching and drill judges said that many of the teams lost points through not following the standard drill. The placings of the other Wanganui teams were:—United (133 points), V: Victory (137 5-8), 9; Relax (130), 10; McKenzie's (129), 11; Troubadors ('l2? 7-B', 15; D.I.C. (1225), 16.
