WANGAEHU WOMEN’S DIVISION OF THE FEDERATED FARMEIS

The branch’s first meeting for the year was held at the residence of Mrs. C. G. Bignell, and was attended by 32 members, and a number of visitors. Mrs. Frederick presided and welcomed members back after the recess, and expressed the hope that the year would be a happy and successful one for the branch. Decisions reached at the committee meeting were communicated to members. The suggestion from headquarters that branches should be required to take a pledge of allegiance before being admitted as registered branches of the organisation met with strong opposition; and the following resolution was unanimously passed: “That in view of our being a voluntary organisation, we are opposed to a pledge of allegiance being introduced into our rules.” The “Food For Britain” contribution for the March meeting is to be a tin of dripping or suet. A letter of thanks was received from headquarters for a donation of £5 towards the new offices. Mesdames Frederick and Bartrum were appointed delegates to attend the meeting for the formation of a lay tuberculosis association. At the conclusion of the meeting, Miss Beverley Frederick, whose marriage was taking place the following week, was farewelled and the secretary spoke of the constant and willing service given by this faithful member, and expressed satisfaction, that although leaving the district she was not severing her connection with the branch. For the Red Cross, Mrs. Craig said that Miss Frederick was a most reliable and conscientious member and would be missed from the branch. The vice-president of the Wangaehu branch of the W.D., Mrs. L. McNaught, then presented the guest of honour with a handsome embossed brass wood box, with the best wishes of both organisations. Musical honours were accorded Miss Frederick, who suitably replied.
