AUCKLAND WINS BY AN INNINGS AND 98 RUNS

DEMPSTER COMPILES HIS CENTURY (PA.) Auckland, Feb. 24. The three-day cricket match between Auckland and Wellington, for the Centennial, which was concluded to-day, was won by Auckland by an innings and 98 runs. At stumps on Saturday Wellington had lost two wickets for 143 runs in their second innings, after being dismissed in the first innings for 103, in reply to Auckland's total of 497.

Conditions when play was resumea this morning were ideal. Wellington added another 143 runs to its score, being dismissed at. 3.35 p.m. for 286. C. S. Dempster, who was 83, took his score to 108 before he was bowled by C. A. Snedden. Dempster again displayed his batting ability, although he was more subdued than on Saturday. He reached his century after 28 minutes’ batting this morning and then took 30 minutes to add the further eight. In all he batted 187 minutes and hit 14 fours. Of the other Wellington batsmen, the colt, J. Oakley, again hatted well and solidly for 43. He batted for 134 minutes and hit three fours.
