OPENING DAY AT TAIHAPE TO-MORROW (0.C.) Taihape, Feb. 24,~i Promising to eclipse the exhibition of previous years, this year's annual show of the Rangitikei Agricultural. and Pastoral Association, to be held on the Recreation Ground, Taihape,. on Wednesday and Thursday of this' week, should set a new standard o£ { achievement. i All classes of stock have been cater-*' ed for in the comprehensive programme, and good support in entries have beeh received. The exhibition of horses, both light and draught, should be one of th» best in years, for this section has always been a feature of the show. The public will find a wealth of entertainment in the ring competitions. for there will be a number of novel events. Prominent horses from all parts of the district will be competing, and horsemanship of a high order should be seen. Many valuable trophies will bffi competed for in the different sections. The judging of stock will be carried out on Wednesday, and on Thursday People’s Day will be observed. Bright entertainment op both day* will be provided by side-show alley. A big electric light sports meeting will be held on Thursday night at th« Taihape Recreation Ground. INTER-SCHOOL CRICKET, TENNIS AND BASEBALL MATCHES Inter-school matches between Ohakune D.H.S. and Taihape D.H.S at cricket, tennis and basebay were played in Taihape over the week-end. Taihape won the cricket match by a wide margin of runs. They alsffi carried off the tennis match, winning by eight sets to Ohakune’s three. In the A grade baseball, Taihape gained a narrow victory by 43 to 42; while in the B grade encounter Ohakune prevailed by 44 to 42. HARVEST THANKSGIVTNG A large congregation attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Utfku, on Sunday, the occasion being harvest thanksgiving service.. There was a large display of produce. Members of the Sunday school took part in a flower service In the morning, each child presenting a bunch of flowera at the altar steps. TAIHAPE CHEVIOTS FOR OVERSEAS Shipped recently for Western Australia by the Waitaki were two firstclass Cheviot sires selected from Mr. J. Webb’s "Burford” flock at Taihape. They were by the Scottish-bred sires Rhymer’s Glen and Bunter, both of which were imported by Mr. Webb. The two rams will be used in a new stud just established in Australia.
