HOGAN BEATS DAI REES AT GOLF

Recd. 8 p.m. San Francisco, Feb. 23 Ben Hogan (America) won a challenge 36-hole golf match against Dai Rees (Britain), 6 up and 4, taking the entire 5000 dollars prize for the match and medal play at San Diego. The match technically was over at the 32nd. hole but the players completed the 36 to decide who should get the money for the lowest medal score. Hogan’s medal score for to-day’s 18 holes was one under par, 71, and Rees 75. Three thousand dollars was the prize for match play and 2000 for the

modal rounds. Rees was 2 down alter the 27th. hole, but cracked on the 28th. and 29th. and halved the 30th., after which he faded.

Hogan simply had too many shots for Rees, whose putting continued to be uncertain. He could not cope with the slowness of the greens compared with those in England.
