CONFUSION REPORTED IN BURMA BY PREMATURE REVOLT
London, Feb. 22. Mr. Aungsan, deputy chairman of the Burma Interim Government, appealed for the surrender of all illicit arms and promised a pardon to all who responded before March 31. He said a revolutionary upheaval was undesirable at this stage. Reuter’s correspondent at Pft ngoon says unconfirmed Press reports state that unrest and confusion prevail in many parts of the interior as the result, as one newspaper puts it, of “mistaken direct action campaign launched by supporters of the AntiFascist Peoples Freedom League” early in February. The correspondent adds that the league planned a general uprising if the London negotiations had failed, including replacing village headmen, burning police stations and establishing parallel administrations. District leaders, however, misinterpreted instructions and the “revolt broke out Burma Executive Council, whose apU. Tin Tut, Finance member of the pointment as Burma's first High Comby mistake.” missioner in London and considered certain, formally joined the AntiFascist League. It is officially announced that the Constituent Assembly elections will be held on April 9 to 11.
