SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. T. Metcalfe, Wanganui East, has returned from a holiday spent at Auckland and Rotoruh. Mrs M. O. Guthrie, of Brisbane, who a rived recently on a visit to Mrs. A. Guthrie, Wicksteed Street, is at present staying at Paraparaumu and will return to Wanganui shortly. Mrs. Phyllis' Riddiford, who was a passenger on the Hinemoa, which arrived from England last Sunday, is the guest of Mrs. H. G. Carver, College Street, and later will be the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. H. E. Wall. Women’s Section Toch IL Delegates from various centres attended the thirteenth annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the women’s section of Toe H., held at Sumner, Christchurch, last week-end. The resignation of Miss A. Ironside, of Marton, as secretary to the general branch because of ill-health was received with regret, and warm appreciation of her services was recorded.

WEDDING

WILLIAMS—WHITE. The mairiage of Miss Linda White, only daughter of Mr. ,»u Mrs. C. R. v/iiite. College Street, y.anganui, and Mr Charles Reginald Levett Williams, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Williams, "The Crolt,” St. Andrew, Soutn Canterbury, took place at Christ Church on Saturday, January 18. The wedding aroused much kinuly interest, the church being lilled with friends and well-vvishei;s. The ceremony, at which the Rev. J. R. L. Higgs officiated, was fully choral, the briae, with he.' father, entering the church escorted by the choir, singing as a processional hymn “The Voice that breathed O’er Eden.” The beautiful decorations arranged by friends, were of blue and p.'ik hydrangeas, and on each end of itie pews were wreaths of flowers

With train and long sleeves the bride's lovely gown of wnite ccaquelle new wool sneer, was embroidered at the waist and neckline. She wore a beautifully embroidered heirloom veil which hau been made in France over 80 years ago and. worn by the brides in the Williams family ever since. The veil was held in place with a spray of orange blossom that had been worn by the bridegroom's mother and grandmother. Her bouquet was of rose s and water lilies. The bridesmaid, Miss Jean Hicks, wore a frock of white georgette, cut on classical lines, with the new cap sleeves of the material cut diagonally. Her headdress was a circlet of blue delphiniums to match the small spray on the front of the frock and the sheaf she carried. Mr. A. J. L. (Jock) Williams, of St. Andrew, South Canterbury, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Messr s John Williams (Feilding) and Ron Russell were the ushers. During the signing of the register, the organist, Mr. John Puryer, played "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring." The reception wa s held at the residence of the bride’s parents. The rooms were decorated with gladioli and hydrangeas, and in the marquee were masses of similar flowers.

The guests were received indoors by the parents of th e bride and bridegroom. Mrs.’White wore a navy blue pebble-crepe suit with navy and white sailor hat, and a shoulder spray of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a white dotted navy silk suit, and wore a navy Leghorn hat and shoulder spray of pink roses. After the reception the bride and bridesmaid, who are hospital sisters, visited their respective wards at the Public Hospital. The bride left for her honeymoon wearing a linen suit in natural shade, smart matching hat and brown accessories. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. L. Williams’ future home will be at St. Andrew, South Canterbury.*
