WANGANUI GIRL GUIDES' ASSOCIATION ATHLITIC SPORTS
Peat Park, Halswell Street, was the scene of a successful Guide and Brownie sports gathering on Satuiday, November 23. The day being so line and sunny added greatly to the enjoyment of the day's outing. Heats lor Guide events were run off in the morning before lunch, in the shade of the lovely English trees of the park. By 1.30 p.m. a number of parents and friends had arrived to watch the afternoon events. Brownie races and relays were alternated with those for Guides and were enjoyed almost as much by onlookers as oy the participants. faking part in the full and varied programme were live Brownie packs, six city Guide companies, and ten Guides from Ist. Marton Company. This last group had come to spend the week-end as guests of Aramoho Guides and knew nothing of the sports until their arrival in Wanganui. However, this did not prevent them from gaining the trophy lor most points in me Guide events, a photo ot the late Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell. At the conclusion ol L.e afternoon, the district commissioner thanked ail those Guiders who had assisted with the sports and presented trophies to the winning pacK, Christ Church, and to the winning company, Ist. Marton. Brownie Events were:—Skipping Relay: Christ Church 1, Wanganui East 2, Gonville 11. 3. Ball and Spoon: Gonville I. 1 and 2, Christ Church 3. 25 Yards: Wanganui East 1 and 2, Christ Church 3. Reef Knot Relay: Christ Church 1 and 2. Hopping. Christ Church 1 and 2, Gonville 11. 3. Bandaging a Kneej Christ Church 1, Wanganui East 2, Gonville I. 3. Pack Relay: Christ Church 1, Wanganui East 2, Gonville I. 3. Most points: Christ Church, 47 points, 1. Guide events were:—Poached Egg: St. Paul's 1, Aramoho 2, St. Paul’s 3. Thread the Needle: St. Paul’s 1, Central and Gonville 2 equal. Catch the Train: Central 1, St. Paul's 2. Scavenging: Central 1, Ist. Marton 2, St. Paul’s 3. Pine Cone Race: Ist. Marton 1, Manaakitia and Ist. Marton 2 equal. Three-legged: Ist. Marton 1,2, and 3. 50 Yards (under 13): Manaakitia 1, Ist. Marton 2 and 3. 50 Yards (over 13): Ist. Marton 1 and 2, Manaakitia 3. Guiders’ Race: Rangers 1. Animal Race: Manaakitia 1, Ist. Marton 2. Company Relay: Central 1, Ist. Marton 2, St. Paul's 3. Slow Cycle: Central 1, St. Paul's 2. Manaakitia 3.
