SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. G. C. Glenn, Victoria Avenue, who has been on a long visit to her son, Dr. E. W. Glenn, Kaikoura, has returned home. A Melbourne girl was the recipient of an unusual gift instead of the customary coming-of-agc key, when she celebrated her birtnday. The memento was an ornament of carved blackwood featuring the figures 21, perforated with that many holes, in each of which was a pencil-rolled pound note. Two well-known Palmerston North .women, Mrs. G. M. McCaskill (Gwen. Gibbs), and Miss Frances Revere, leave oy flying-boat next week for Australia. The former, who is a teacher of dancing, plans to study dancing trends in Sydney and Melbourne, take a refresher course with Madame Bodenweisser, and renew her acquaintanceship with Mr. Borovansky, ballet maestro. The fashion editress of a London newspaper, seeing Princess Margaret at a recent wedding, thought s he recognised the hat the Princess was wearing. She searched her files and found a wartime picture of the same hat—but Princess Elizabeth was then wearing it. The fashion editress who made the discovery says: ‘This is a soberer for many a British girl who has been handed down clothes from an elder sister, and wished “If only 1 were a princess.” Miss Agnete Plent, well known to many Plunket Nurses in Wanganui and Wellington areas, arrived at her home in Copenhagen, Denmark, in January, 1946, Soon she commenced work in a tuberculosis clinic, where she assisted in developing and reading of films. The Danish authorities insist on a chest X-ray of the whole population in an endeavour to discover the harm done by so many years of privation and short commons. After some months of this work, Miss Plent arranged to take a post graduate nursing course similar to the post graduate course provided by the Health Department in New Zealand and commenced in September. In giving this news of Miss Plent, the “Plunket News” states they hope to hear further details of the course and comments on infant welfare work in Denmark. Convent Pupils Entertained. Committee members of the’ Wanganui Sacred Heart Convent Old Giris' Association entertained 25 Convent pupils to afternoon tea at Virginia Lake kiosk on Saturday. The occasion was an annual one for girls who intend leaving school at the end of the year and besides marking the close of their school careers, is intended to foster interest in their association.
