OPEN ATHLETIC MEETING ON SATURDAY NIGHT
VISIT FROM WELLINGTONIANS The official opening of the local athletic season insofar as open meetings is concerned, will take place on Saturday night. Last year the national championships brought to Wanganui the Dominion’s leading athletes with a resultant quickening of public interest. Some record attendances were witnessed at Cook’s Gardens, both for athletes and cycling. The new season opens this year with the annual visit of the Wellington team. Before the war this meeting was a highlight of the local sport activities and it is welcome news that the visits are commencing again. Some outstanding talent will be seen on Cook’s Gardens on Saturday night. The usual complete arrangements have been made for a first-class programme, and with the open cycling events the meeting should be a great success.
