WETTER AND COOLER MONTH THAN LAST YEAR STATISTICS FOR NOVEMBER

November in Wanganui was wetter and cooler but sunnier—by only a bare six minutes —than November last year.

There was considerably more sunshine during the month which ended on Saturday than in October, but the total topped last year’s November total of 251.2 by only six minutes. There was one sunless day last month and there was none in November, 1945. The longest daily period of sunshine last month was recorded on November 23, when the sun shone without a break for 14 hours 36 minuates. In 1945 the highest daily total was 13 hours 24 minutes On November 25. Over an inch of rain in the last week pushed last November's rainfall to 3.19 inches, well above the November, 1945, recording of 1.11. Then rain fell on only six days. November 4 was the wettest with .61 inches. Last month rain fell on 16 days and November 24 and 28 both topped the previous year's best with .76 and 1.09 respectively. The mean temperatures for the months were 64.2 in 1946 and 58.6 in 1945. In November. 1945. the highest was 75 degrees on the 22nd day. This year the mercury reached its highest level of 69.7 degrees on November 27. The lowest recordings were 41 degrees on November 18. 1945. and 35.3 degrees on November 10, 1946. Average readings during the two months were:—Maximum. 60.09 in 1946 and 65.42 in 1945; minimum, 48.32 and 51.78; grass. 43 98 and 47.46.
