WANGANUI PIPE BAND CELEBRATES ST. ANDREW’S DAY
Sponsored by the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, a gathering was held in the Savage Club Hall last night to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day. Taking the form of a concert and dance, it opened with selections by the band, which had played en route from the band room to the hall. The president, Mr. A. McSkimming, extended a welcome to Wanganui and visiting Scots and supporters of the band. Contributing to the programme, Mrs. Perrett, Mrs. Hodges and Miss Dunlop and Mr. CoJin FranklinBrowne sang songs, Miss D. McSkintming gave elocutionary items. Ml. Roy Jack played violin solos, Mr. F. H. Wilkie contributed humour, Misses Joyce and Jessie Dick, Merle Byers and Krina Hughes national dances, Pipe-Major E. C. Morgan, Pipe-Ser-geant T. Mulcahy and Piper L. Stewart a bagpipe trio, Misses Joyce Dick, Merle Byers and Jean Hall a bagpipe trio, and Masters Robert and David Morgan a bagpipe duet. Accompanistes for the songs were Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Sutherland. After supper had been served dancing was indulged in to music supplied by the Highland Swing Orchestra, included among the dances being the ever-popular Gay Gordons and Highland schottische.
