RUNAWAY RUGBY WIN FOR AUCKLAND AGAINST KING COUNTRY

(Special) Taumarunui, Oct. 5.

Auckland had a runaway victory over King Country in a representative Rugby match, the score being 41 to 11. The weather was perfect and the ground dry. The crowd totalled more than 3000.

King Country had the best of the first spell, leading 6 to 3 at half-time, but from the start of the second half the visitors’ backs took command, piling up try after try. In the first spell the two packs were even’matched, with hooking fifty-fifty, and King Country overshadowing Auckland in the loose. Tetzlaff was given little chance to get his backs away, and when he got the ball out Dobson and Barchard ran across the field too much, crossing Dunn and Boggs. In the first half King Country tackled well, never missing, but in the second half the tackling went to pieces.

Scott, the Auckland full-back, had a day off, missing five fairly easy penalties before landing a goal from front of the posts. Otherwise he was up to standard. Boggs and Dunn gave fine service on -the wings, and McHugh. Simpson and Johnson stood out in the forwards. In the second half Tetzlaff gave the Auckland backs all the bail they wanted.

At half-time the prospects for a close game were good, but after the spell the visitors had a feast of the ball and King Country’s play deteriorated. Leary, at first five-eighths, was the best King Country back, and Marriner, Bryers, Wills and Schroeder were the pick of the forwards. Most of Auckland’s tries came from passing rushes, except the first, which was lucky, coming from a long kick beyond the full-back. For Auckland McKay scored three tries, Dunn two, and Boggs, Banchard and Johnson one each. Scott kicked one penalty' and converted seven tries. For King Country Kirto and Schroeder scored and Auld converted one try and kicked a penalty from practically halfway. The teams were:— Auckland: Scott; Dunn, McKay, Boggs; Dobson, Banchard: Tetzlaff; Christian, Crowley, McHugh, Edwards, Don, Simpson, Lydster, Johnson. In the second half Kingstone replaced an injured player. King Country: Auld; Keenan, Kirton, McLean; Miller, Leary; Cumpstone; Were, Marriner, Wills, Bryers, Tibby; Waiere, Ben Davis, Schroeder. Bennet replaced Marriner near the end of the game owing to injury.
